Relationship & Family Counseling

Relationships can be hard! Most of us at some point experience conflict, disconnection, communication mishaps, hurt/betrayal, or ambivalence in our relationships. If you have experienced any of these things you are not alone, many people experience these themes at different times throughout life. But you are probably here looking for a change, because getting stuck in the same pattern over and over again can get old! I help people on their journey to gain more understanding and to start to feel more connected in their relationships.

You may have been handed down a road map for how to relate to others from your culture, family, beliefs, childhood, and past relationships. All of these things can play a part in your relationship now. You may be here seeking a new way of relating in your relationship. You may be wanting to feel more connected and secure in your relationship(s). Perhaps you are wanting to explore yourself and your relationship more deeply.

I specialize in working with a variety of diverse relationships including queer relationships, couples, families, and friendships. I work with many neurodivergent couples, poly and ENM relationships, blended families, and interracial couples.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a research based approach on attachment and relationships that helps provide a framework for healing and changing cycles. We will begin to understand the cycle you get caught in and slowly allow more space to notice what is happening. I will begin to help you start to change the cycles and patterns that are not working in your relationship.  Mindfulness & somatic approaches allow me to help slow down the process as we get curious about what is happening for you in the moment. Being aware of what is happening in your body, and in the present moment, allows us to discover deeper layers of your experience.

In therapy we will work together to create goals in a collaborative way that will help the guide us through the counseling process. Some themes that we might work on in relationship counseling include: improving communication, increasing intimacy, examining power dynamics in the relationship, reestablishing safety, becoming aware of relationship patterns and ways of interacting, and finding greater trust in the relationship.

Individual Counseling

You are probably seeking counseling because you are looking for some type of change or shifts in your life. In counseling I aim to create a safe environment so that we can begin to explore your inner world. I use theories of IFS (Internal Family Systems), EMDR, Somatic/Hakomi, and Narrative.

Each person’s goals will vary in individual counseling, but some goals or themes that could potentially be explored include: healing past trauma, finding clarity about relational patterns, moving towards connection and authenticity in life, working through stuck places to finding places of greater choice and understanding in yourself.

The space of our lack is also the space of possibility
